Frequently asked questions
Starting psychotherapy is a personal choice. It may be beneficial if you are feeling down, experiencing relationship or work issues, or just need an empathetic and resourceful person to listen. In your first appointment, our mental health therapists will look at your situation holistically, considering past mental health issues, family dynamics, and medical history. Your therapist will work with you to set treatment goals.
Without insurance, therapy can be expensive. With insurance, the amount you would pay for sessions depends on a few factors. Your insurance company sets the amount you would pay depending on deductible, copay, and coinsurance. OHP covers 100% of the cost of each session. If you have questions about our fees or want to discuss options, please reach out to us.
Insurance will often cover a significant portion of the cost for sessions. It can be hard to know how much your specific plan will pay for your copay or coinsurance, so we highly recommend contacting your insurance company to determine your potential costs before beginning services. If you have insurance benefits that we are not in network with, we can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement from your insurance. We recommend contacting your insurance company to see if you have this benefit and what the process would be for you. We can get preauthorization before we begin, when required by your plan. OHP covers 100% of the cost for sessions.

Please read our provider bios or reach out to us to determine which therapist would be a good fit for you.
Confidentiality is very important. What you share in therapy is private. It is illegal for your therapist to disclose any information about you without your explicit written consent except in a few very specific cases (for example, imminent risk of suicide or injury to another person). We will not share your information with partners, spouses, employers or parents (if you are over age 15). We talk about our confidentiality practices with each patient before we begin treatment.
Insurance companies believe that couples therapy is not medically necessary, so they do not cover this cost. When using insurance, there is an identified client with a diagnosis and each session must work towards improving the specific treatment goals of that client related to the mental health diagnosis. Couples therapy would mean that all individuals in the relationship are the identified client. Working on communication within the relationship and improving the relationship itself would not be considered working towards a treatment goal that is directly related to the mental health diagnosis of one person.
